In natural conception, sperm from the man and egg from the woman meet in woman’s fallopian tubes. These are the tubes that join ovaries to uterus (womb). God only knows why it happen so, but, out of many, only one sperm is able to penetrate one egg and become part of it; The process is known as fertilization.
In IVF, this process of fertilization happens outside woman’s body. A woman’s eggs are retrieved by needle suction under ultrasound guidence. Wife's eggs are made to meet Husband's Sperms in a petri dish in the laboratory under strict environmental control; The process is known as IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization).
Fertilised egg is called embryo. This embryo can be easily transferred to women's womb, the process being known as Embryo Transfer(ET). This completes IVF Cycle.
Typically, one IVF cycle takes between four and seven weeks.
